Method Acting and Improv allows the mind and body to transform into a new configuration of the self. As a performing arts instructor, I have crafted classes that combine social emotional learning with character development, impromptu speaking, and other methods of world building.
Acting in character is a class I developed that allows students to build an in-depth character throughout the course of the semester. The goal is to create a whole world around whatever character that the student chooses to become. If the character changes over time, that’s okay... the class is meant to allow students to explore. Students are taught how to create a backstory
which helps them understand their character better: how they act, what their motives are, who they will become. Some topics covered include characterization, character interviews, place, problem, scene, Uta Hagen’s Nine Questions, world building and more.
